Blind REFER

FreeSWITCH sends a SIP REFER to the caller's PBX immediately. The PBX re-routes the call internally. FreeSWITCH is released right away.

Best for: Simple transfers back to PBX where the PBX handles routing and failover internally.

Hold + REFER

FreeSWITCH sends a re-INVITE hold to the caller, causing the PBX to activate its own hold music. Then FreeSWITCH sends a SIP REFER and releases. Caller hears PBX hold music with no silence gap.

Best for: Queue transfers where FreeSWITCH must release resources and the PBX supports hold music on blind transfer.

Requires: PBX (Yeastar) must be configured to play MOH when a re-INVITE hold is received.

Attended REFER

FreeSWITCH plays hold music and dials the agent. Once the agent answers, FreeSWITCH sends a SIP REFER to the caller pointing to the answered agent, then releases. No silence gap — agent is connected before REFER is sent.

Best for: Queue transfers where no silence gap is critical, FreeSWITCH release is required, and transfer02 failover is needed.
